An
8-day cruise allows you to explore central and northern Raja Ampat, with diving at a wide range of world-class, action-packed sites.
The first two days are usually spent in Dampier Strait. Sites such as Cape Kri, Chicken Reef, Sardine Reef, and Blue Magic are known for blacktip, whitetip, and gray reef sharks, giant trevally, Spanish mackerel, and dogtooth tuna hunting large schools of fish. Macro life is also common. Around Arborek and Mansuar Islands, you may encounter schooling batfish, crocodilefish, and manta rays. Over the following three days, you gradually move north, diving at different sites along the way before reaching the Fam Islands. The famous Melissa’s Garden is known for its dense coral coverage and abundant fish life. Keruo Wall is a drift dive with large sea fans and healthy reef tops. Wofoh Island features impressive black coral forests. Aljui Bay is known for its rich macro life, including octopus, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, and epaulette walking sharks. Farther north, in the Wayag area, you dive at Black Rock and Eagle Rock, both known for their healthy coral reefs. During the final days, as you return south toward Sorong, you stop at Yeben and Yangeffo Islands for dives at Mayhem and Citrus Ridge, where manta rays, pelagic species, and large schools of fish are often seen.
This is not a complete list, but rather an overview to illustrate the variety of landscapes, underwater topography, and marine life you may encounter while diving in Raja Ampat. Additional dive sites will be included along the route. The program is also complemented by several land-based excursions, including visits to the Piaynemo and Wayag viewpoints, village walks, and time to explore the mangroves and lagoons by paddleboard.
Central & South – 25 to 31 dives
If your travel dates allow for a longer cruise of 10 to 11 days, you can explore both central and southern Raja Ampat. The southern region, known as Misool, is a remote area made up of countless islands and small islets, renowned for its vibrant soft corals and exceptionally rich marine life. During this cruise, in the central region, you dive in Dampier Strait and around the Fam Islands, Yeben, and Yangeffo — see descriptions above. In the south, around the islands of Misool, you explore sites such as:
- Andiamo: where pygmy seahorses, giant trevallies, and barracuda are often seen.
- Candy Store: colorful reef and vibrant marine life.
- Warna Bewarna: meaning colorful colors in Indonesian: wall covered in sea fans and soft corals.
- Fiabacet: coral rich ridge with pinnacles, reef sharks, and schooling fish.
- Yuliet, a sloping reef with soft corals and batfish.
- Shadow Reef, a submerged seamount known for pelagics and reef sharks.
- Nudibranch Rock, a small pinnacle known for macro life.
- Batu Kecil, a coral pinnacle with abundant reef fish.
- Whale Rock, a rock formation where turtles and bumphead parrotfish are often seen.
- Boo West Corner, a current swept reef with healthy corals and pygmy seahorses.
- Yuliet Kecil, a shallow reef with diverse macro and reef life.
- Romeo and Yuliet Besar, night dives on two small islands connected by a wide coral plateau with rich marine life
- Sagof, an excellent macro site where you search for marine life in the small shelters and crevices along the wall.
- Wagmab, a coral covered reef with overhangs and schooling fish.
- Farondi, an area with caverns, tunnels, and walls, home to many invertebrates and reef fish.
And many more.
Once again, this list is not complete, and additional dive sites may be explored along the way depending on conditions.
The program also includes land excursions along the way, such as visits to the Piaynemo Viewpoint and Jellyfish Lake, village walks, and time to freely explore the mangroves and lagoons by kayak or paddleboard.
Central, North and South – 31 to 37 dives
Finally, if your travel dates allow for a 12 or 13-day cruise, you can explore the full Raja Ampat region, from the central area to both the northern and southern zones. This is a very special itinerary offering a nice combination of the dive sites listed above, for a comprehensive underwater experience of the archipelago. No need to choose between north and south, as you experience it all in a single journey.
